Frequently Asked Questions

What Is a Septic Tank?

A septic tank is a waste management system that you can install in your yard. It is beneficial for treating sewage and water waste for homes in rural areas. This is especially true if your living area does not have a municipality plant for waste management, you should then install a septic tank

How Does a Septic Tank Work?

Septic tanks are used to treat and dispose of household waste, and it removes the water waste from your bathtub, kitchen sink, and toilet. A septic tank should be buried in your backyard or somewhere close to your property to avoid it taking up too much space.

The tank separates your waste into three distinct layers, the top layer is the scum, the middle layer is the wastewater, and the bottom layer is the sludge. The bacteria released in the tank will then break down all the scum and sludge over time, and the wastewater will drain through the outlet pipes and soak into the soil.

One would think that this is all the septic tank does, but there is so much more to it. It also washes out the greywater from your washing machine. The scum comes from the soap and detergent used when you bathe, wash the dishes, or do the laundry.

Once the wastewater is drained, there are still contaminants that remain in the tank, and this will then break down and turn into sludge which drops to the bottom of the tank and decomposes naturally over time.

How Does YourPro Septic Tank Services Work?

Once you have filled in your online form and provided us with the necessary information, a technician will arrive at your property with the needed equipment to help you with all your septic tank installations.

Installation:

The septic tank installation can be very lengthy, as many factors need to be considered, and many steps need to be followed. Firstly, we need to do the preparations and draw up a design for the installation. This process includes soil testing, finding the perfect location, and determining the tank size that your family will need. We will also select the required material for the septic tank. You can go with a concrete septic tank, steel septic tank, plastic septic tank, or fibreglass septic tank.

Once all of that has been decided, we will determine what the septic tank’s size needs to be. For sizing, we need to consider the number of family members, the condition of your soil, and the size of your yard. We also need to determine the type of septic tank you want to be installed.

You can choose between the two most popular types: the Gravity-based septic tank and the Pressure Distribution septic tank. Alternatively, you can go with the Aerobic Treatment Unit (ATU), Mound, Sand Filter, or Peat Moss septic tanks.

For more information on the type of septic tanks, you can search online or ask one of our experts.

Once a proper plan has been drawn up and you’ve determined the location, material, and type of septic tank you will use, we can proceed with the preparations. As soon as your plans have been approved, our team will make sure everything runs smoothly, and all the required materials and equipment are there to install the septic tank for you

Maintenance of the septic tank

We will draw up a maintenance plan for your septic tank to be cleaned every 2 - 5 years or whenever needed. This process will include pumping out the sludge and taking it to a disposable waste treatment plant. We will also properly clean the tank for you. You can do this yourself, but to avoid damages and incorrect cleaning, please contact a reliable septic tank emptying and cleaning service from YourHero

Repairs

If your septic tank gets damaged, you can contact YourHero to find an expert to repair the damages for you.

How Much Does it Cost to Install, Maintain, and Repair a Septic Tank in Dublin?

We always take your pocket and budget into consideration and will never overcharge you for any services provided. When we quote you, the total septic tank installation price is determined by:

  • The average labour costs
  • The material and equipment costs
  • Total project costs (machinery, components, surface preparation, cleaning, and maintenance)
In total, your costs could range between €4,250.00 and €12,750.00 in Dublin. The only factor not included in the initial quote is the repair costs. The cost of septic tank repairs is determined by the amount of damage sustained and typically occurs years after the installation, so we cannot include it in the initial pricing.

What Is the Importance of Cleaning a Septic Tank?

Because all the materials and waste are moving through your pipes into the septic tank, it is important to get it regularly cleaned to avoid clogged pipes, burst pipes, and foul smells. You should arrange for your tank to be cleaned at least once every 2 to 5 years. However, if your sludge reaches 30% of the tank height, you should get it cleaned regardless of the years.

The tank needs to be drained and cleaned out properly, and you need to dispose of the sludge the correct way. The sludge needs to be taken to a disposable waste treatment plant. Keeping your septic tank clean and properly maintained can help you save costs in the long run, as you won’t have to repair damages or replace the tank often.

What Are the Advantages of Installing a Septic Tank?

Not only are septic tanks environmentally friendly because it does not contaminate your water supply and it removes bacteria before the water is released into your soil. You can also recycle the water it releases to sustain various plant life nearby.

Septic tanks are also cost-effective, it costs much less than an underground sewer line and does not need to be maintained every month, you only provide maintenance once every 2 to 5 years. The septic tank is also quite durable and only needs to be repaired under harsh circumstances.

What Is the Lifespan of a Septic Tank?

Much like anything in life, a septic tank has a lifespan. The average lifespan of a septic tank is 40 years. However, if properly maintained and cleaned, a septic tank rarely reaches the end of its lifespan.

That being said, a septic tank can still be damaged and will need to be replaced or repaired.

Causes of damage in septic tanks can range between:

  • Plant roots growing through the pipes.
  • Tank dislodgement.
  • Pressure from a damaged drain field.
  • Improper use or care.
  • Disposing of certain materials in your toilet (things that should not be flushed but rather disposed of in a trashcan).
  • Misusing your garbage disposal system.

When Will I Know That My Septic Tank Needs to Be Replaced?

In most cases, you will hear rattling sounds or notice that the septic tank is not working as it should. In cases like this, you can get YourHero to do an inspection, and they might need to repair the damage.

In rare cases, you won’t even know that it’s damaged until it’s too late and you need to replace the entire system and septic tank. The signs include:

  • A foul smell in your yard near the septic tank.
  • Contamination of nearby water sources.
  • Finding swampy patches in your yard.
  • Unable to properly flush your toilet or water does not drain properly from the bathtub or kitchen sink.

For any septic tank repairs or replacements, you can contact YourHero, and we will provide you with technicians who can evaluate the situation and draw up a proper plan to take care of the problem. We are here to assist you with all your septic tank needs and requirements.
